Interventions using such targeted messages for physical activity and nutrition may be modified on the basis of the individual’s self reported stage of change. A research study investigating the effectiveness of a tailored intervention program found that the employees who received tailored information in 8 sessions over a two-week period increased and maintained their habitual levels of physical activity for 12 months [21]. Employees in the control group were those who joined the company’s wellness centre and showed a decline in habitual physical activity over the same period [21]. Similarly, a worksite-based lifestyle intervention aimed at improving physical activity and nutrition habits, which incorporated tailored messaging based on the Trans Theoretical.
